York County proclaims Local Government Week, honors 9-1-1 telecommunicators and finance office

The York County Board of Commissioners on April 16 proclaimed April 14–18, 2025 as Local Government Week and April 16 as Local Government Day in York County, and used the occasion to recognize 9-1-1 telecommunicators and the county controller's finance office.

Vice President Commissioner Burford read the proclamation and thanked county employees for their work, saying, "It's been great, it's a great privilege to read this into the record this morning." The proclamation cited the Pennsylvania General Assembly designation of Local Government Week and described the county as one of 67 in Pennsylvania with more than 464,000 residents, 72 municipalities and about 2,200 employees.

The board also acknowledged National Telecommunicator Week and recognized staff in the 9-1-1 center for dispatching emergency services. Craig Fenstermacher, the county's chief detective, participated in remarks at a recognition event. Jamie Norpell of the Safety Collaborative and Michelle Delpizo, president of UPMC Memorial, joined the board in thanking telecommunicators; Delpizo specifically thanked on-duty staff who worked the day of a recent incident at UPMC.

Commissioners noted the county controller's office, led by Greg Bauer, received a certificate of achievement from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its finance work; the board said the team has held the recognition for 32 consecutive years.

The proclamation text, read into the record, lists the Pennsylvania General Assembly's designation, notes York County's population and municipal makeup, and commends employees, elected and appointed officials and volunteers for providing local services ranging from human services to public safety.

The board opened and closed the public comment period for the item with no additional comments and moved on to the next agenda business.
