The Republic City Council voted to award the construction contract for the Commercial Avenue widening project to Hamilton and Dad Incorporated with a not-to-exceed amount of $550,000.
Stephanie Fitzpatrick Duncan, a city engineer, said the city received four bids and Hamilton and Dad was the lowest qualified bidder. The project scope includes road widening, sidewalk improvements and stormwater work. “The not to exceed amount for this contract is $550,000 which is budgeted, so staff is recommending approval,” Fitzpatrick Duncan said.
A council member asked whether the widening covered the area from Fourth Street to Highway 60; Fitzpatrick Duncan replied that the portion under contract runs from Leadership Drive (near the new intermediate school) down to the Stone Creek connection recently constructed by city crews. The council approved the resolution by an 8–0 vote.
