The City Council approved several routine and project items in a grouped set of votes at its meeting, including the consent agenda, a street-use permit for an April 25 YMCA race, an appointment to the Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department and authorization to advertise bids for a 34.5-kilovolt electric ring-bus upgrade.
The actions were taken during the meeting’s consent and action items. The consent agenda (approve agenda, pay claims as submitted and accept the treasury report for March 2025) passed after a motion by Council member Lola and a second by Council member Corey. The council then approved a street closure request from the YMCA to block Brown Street from about 5:45 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. on April 25 for a community “duck run.” Vicky Fisher, youth and program family director at the YMCA, and Aaron Eparato, sports director, described the route and timing: “We would like to block off Brown Street from, like, 05:45 to 07:00 on April 25 for the duck run,” Eparato said.
The council also approved the appointment of Justin Norris to the Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department. Members who moved and seconded the appointment commented that Norris’s letter of recommendation indicated he was an “excellent choice.”
Finally, the council authorized staff to advertise bid specifications for a 34.5-kilovolt electric utility ring-bus completion project. City staff described the project route and purpose on existing subtransmission and distribution lines, saying the work will start at the South Substation by the landfill, run through R7, and connect to the power-plant substation before continuing toward Fourth Street. Staff said the specification approval was to allow the city to solicit contractors and aim for a second meeting in May to return with bids.
