The commission announced a promotional examination for the rank of sergeant will be held the morning after the April 16 meeting at 9 a.m. in the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office training/classroom.
Commission staff said two corporals were eligible to test: Corporal Chronister and Corporal Dobson. President Buck will serve as a test proctor and staff will be present to assist. Commissioners said they expect to provide an update at the next commission meeting.
Commissioners noted the promotional process rules that govern eligibility and list handling; if the sheriff requests a candidate be removed, the commission will schedule a hearing and will not supply replacement names until that matter is resolved.
