The Berkeley County Deputy Sheriff Civil Service Commission on April 16 voted to approve Thomas Plank for hire on the sheriff’s recommendation after the commission reviewed a letter from Chief Young confirming that Plank had met state-code requirements and had medical sign-offs from two doctors.
Staff said Chief Young delivered a letter dated March 26 stating that Plank had met all state-code and commission requirements. Commissioners moved to approve Plank and to close the personnel item; the motion was seconded and adopted by voice vote.
Commission staff noted the commission had previously closed a related item prematurely and that the letter from Chief Young closed that loop. The clerk will prepare a confirmation letter for President Buck to sign and return to Chief Young.
