Commission hears budget update; obligation rate rises to 19.5 percent, promotional testing expected

Mister Alden, presenting the budget update to the Berkeley County Deputy Sheriff Civil Service Commission on April 16, said the commission’s full-service account obligation rate rose from 12.9% last month to 19.5% as of the meeting date.
"What has come in, as I recall, is advertisements from the journal... and there was also... from the local IQ agency we worked with," Alden said, attributing most of the increase to advertising and a local agency. He told commissioners there were no other significant expenditures.
Commissioners asked whether another testing cycle would be needed before the end of the fiscal year. Alden said promotional examination notifications are expected within the next two weeks and that the commission should be able to cover the anticipated single promotional test from the current budget.
No formal vote was taken on the budget update; staff provided a written copy of the most current report to commissioners.
