Commissioners approve growth-management exception for 17801 Buffalo Road, waiving sewer agency fees

The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners on April 15 approved a growth-management plan exception request for property addressed as 17801 Buffalo Road, allowing the county to forward paperwork to the Sarpy County Sewer Agency seeking an exemption from certain sewer fees.
Deputy County Administrator Scott Bovic told commissioners the property, owned by Ryan M. and Jennifer A. Peterson, is a 10.61-acre parcel at the intersection of 100th and 80th streets and that it qualified as an "active lot" with appropriate zoning before the sewer agency's growth management regulations took effect. With the county's exception request filed, the owners would be able to build a single-family dwelling and use a septic system without paying what Bovic described as a full fee the staff estimated at about $30,000 per acre or an alternative of $5,700 per lot.
Bovic said the county coordinates these exception requests with sewer-agency staff and that the sewer agency planned to take action on the request at its April meeting. Commissioners asked whether a future subdivision would remain exempt; Bovic replied, "They'd be subject to the regulations, the county's planning and zoning regulations and the sewer agency's regulations at that time."
The board approved the county resolution to submit the exception request by motion. Motion by Commissioner Warren, second by Commissioner Mixon. The motion carried; Commissioner Kelly was absent. The county will forward the approved exception request to the Sarpy County Sewer Agency for its consideration.
