The Jasper City Council adopted a resolution authorizing Mayor Gary Cowan to sign an engineering design agreement with McGehee Engineering Corporation for a required second entrance/exit turnout on Viking Drive serving the Viking Cove subdivision.
City staff said the second entrance is planned across from Eastside Baptist Church and will tie into planned work at Twentieth and Viking for a traffic light. Brent McCarver presented the resolution and recommended the mayor be authorized to execute the engineering agreement; the council approved the resolution by voice vote.
The council also approved a separate request, following prior discussions with Alabama Power, to add a new streetlight near 406 Eagle Circle in District 1. The request was made under the city's normal procedures for streetlight additions, and council members approved the placement by voice vote.
Ending: The engineering contract and streetlight addition were approved; staff will proceed with design and coordinate with Alabama Power and other agencies as needed. No contract dollar amounts were given at the meeting for the engineering agreement.
