Cliffside Park board reviews $1.39 million bid for School No. 6 multipurpose room renovation; board asks for bid package and biweekly updates

During the April 16 meeting the Cliffside Park Board of Education reviewed planned facilities work and grant funding, including a bid award for a full renovation of the multipurpose room at School No. 6.
Lou (finance report presenter) told the board the low responsive bid accepted for the School No. 6 multipurpose room project was approximately $1,392,000 and described the scope as a complete renovation, structural work and upgrades to make the space ADA compliant, including installation of a chairlift. Lou also said the district had budgeted about $2,000,000 for the project and that the district’s internal cost estimate had been about $1,700,000.
Lou said the originally lowest bidder withdrew their bid after underestimating the work; the Blackstone bid was accepted after Land Associates checked referrals. Lou told the board the district expects to upload grant paperwork the next day for an approximately $8,000 safety and security grant from the New Jersey Schools Insurance Group and said the grant will be used on 2025‑26 projects pending approval.
Board members asked for an electronic copy of the full bid package, specifications and drawings and requested regular updates. Administration agreed to distribute the bid package and provide on‑site or virtual construction meetings approximately every two weeks with meeting minutes shared to the board.
The multipurpose room item, safety grant and related facilities approvals were part of the consent agenda the board approved by roll call later in the meeting.
