Cottage Grove Library Board to draft event code of conduct after participant incident

The Village of Cottage Grove Library Board on April 16 directed staff to draft a short code of conduct for participants at library events and to add it to the library’s policy manual.
Board members said the move follows “an incident” at a recent event and would give staff clearer authority and public guidance for handling inappropriate behavior. The board reviewed example templates used by nearby libraries and agreed that a concise, public-facing code of conduct would be appropriate.
Members agreed staff should prepare a draft for the board to consider at the next meeting. The board also noted that Parks and Recreation did not appear to have a code of conduct and suggested coordination across village communications and policies where appropriate.
