Cottage Grove library reports strong program attendance; sustainability month and community read planning underway

At the April 16 meeting of the Village of Cottage Grove Library Board, programming staff reported continued strong attendance for library programs and outlined upcoming sustainability events and Community Read planning.
Tracy (library programming staff) said story time attendance remains steady and that virtual and adult programs typically draw 10 to 20 participants. She reported the library’s recent “slime” pop-up drew “at least 100 kids” and that a makerspace program had attendance in the 50–60 range. Tracy said the library has run about 28 programs so far in the year.
Programming for April is focused on sustainability; Tracy noted a recent event with Pelletary Waste Systems and an Earth Day story time scheduled for Saturday. She asked for volunteers to help shepherd children at the pond during the event.
Board members discussed the fall Community Read. The library has historically sought Wisconsin authors and sometimes asks the prior year’s author for a recommendation. Carole Dunbar was asked to be contacted to help make an author connection; the board has not selected a fall author yet. The board also discussed whether Friends of the Library would again purchase books for the Community Read and said a staff member would check with the Friends.
Tracy said the library is finishing a winter/spring session with McFarland librarians and noted that a fall contract for their service will be needed. The board asked staff to bring related contract and Friends-book-purchase updates to the next meeting.
