City reports amended interlocal with Puget Sound RFA, Medic 1 levy to appear on ballot

City staff briefed the Kent City Council on April 15 about a negotiated amendment to the interlocal agreement and lease with the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority (RFA), and about regional emergency medical funding and related grants.
City Administrator Pat Fitzpatrick said the city and the RFA have a longstanding interlocal agreement covering shared services and property leases. He told the council the amendment the city approved in December has been finalized and will go to the RFA board for approval the next night. Fitzpatrick said Emergency Management has already moved out of the Centennial Center and Fire Marshal permitting and inspections are expected to relocate by June; the moves free space and parking in the Centennial Center for upcoming city uses.
Council Member Boyce reported on a workshop item authorizing the Medic 1 emergency medical services levy; he said the measure will appear on an upcoming ballot. Boyce also said the city received a Washington Traffic Safety Commission interagency grant to fund a dedicated DUI officer. Fitzpatrick and council members did not take additional council action at the April 15 meeting; the items were reported for council information and future follow up.
