Members described prior rides that drew a range of participants, including families, young riders and seniors. The committee agreed a holiday night ride paired with seasonal lights and a spring daytime event — which could be coordinated with health or youth activities — would create larger, more marketable events and provide better opportunities for sponsorship.
Committee members said the town has previously run one large annual ride and that attendance on some recent committee rides has been limited. They discussed timing (colder months and event conflicts), promotion and safety. The committee also suggested offering two events per year would allow staff and volunteers to focus outreach and fundraising to cover costs such as helmets, water and marketing.
A motion to hold two annual rides — a December nighttime event and a spring daytime event — passed by voice vote. Members said they would pursue sponsorships and partner with local organizations and vendors to expand the events.
The committee intends to bring planning details, budget requests and proposed dates back to future meetings for approval and to coordinate with the Town Council report package.
