The San Angelo Independent School District Board of Trustees voted 6-0 on April 21 to approve bid 25-003 for charter bus travel services and designate Safe Charters (transcript: “Safe Charters of Thai, Texas”) as the district’s primary vendor for seven high-volume travel dates.
The action matters because the contract sets fixed pricing for planned high-demand dates, which administrators said reduces emergency charter costs and supports out-of-town travel for athletics and band programs.
Miss Turner, presenting the recommendation, summarized the procurement: administrators identified seven high-volume travel dates, issued an RFP and received nine bids, eight of which could perform all trips. Turner said Safe Charters had the lowest price and highest score and recommended awarding the contract. She said, “Total cost for Safe Charters to charter 42 buses on 7 high volume travel dates will be $126,694.42.”
Trustee Mr. Bridal moved approval of the recommendation and Dr. Mills seconded. After a brief trustee exchange about local charter availability and operational needs, the board approved the motion unanimously. The board noted there are no local companies known to provide the out-of-town travel charters.
The administration said the pre-bid strategy (identifying dates in advance) reduced estimated costs that might otherwise range much higher if charters were procured on short notice.
Ending: The motion passed 6-0 and will be included in the regular meeting consent or action items as the district completes contract paperwork.
