Wolfeboro Waters to investigate stormwater at Kingswood Complex; Select Board notified

The Wolfeboro Waters Committee notified the Board of Selectmen that it intends to investigate stormwater flows from the Kingswood Complex and the Governor Wentworth Regional School District campus after guidance from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES).
Libby Peart, speaking for Wolfeboro Waters and the Russ Pond Association, said DES encouraged watershed stakeholders to examine upstream sources of nutrient and runoff loading rather than focusing on downstream, piecemeal fixes. "DES really wanted us to start looking up higher," Peart said, explaining the committee’s interest in drainage systems that route water from the school campus down into Russ Pond.
Peart told the board the committee’s motivation grew from longer‑standing work on Russ Pond water quality, including prior 319 grant applications. The committee plans to work with the school district to evaluate current drainage configurations and consider options to reduce nutrient and sediment flows to downstream water bodies.
Board members said the topic merited careful coordination with school officials and with town departments. One board member asked whether required stormwater plans existed from the high‑school construction and whether the town had records of prior stormwater approvals; staff said they would assemble relevant documentation and that direct conversations with the district should be collaborative.
