Representatives from the Siski Economic Development Council updated the board on a series of local projects, including the near‑completion of interior improvements at the Carnegie Library in Yreka, use of tax-credit financing on other local projects, and agricultural support programs.
Tanya Douse (introduced as Tanya Dallas in the audio) said interior restoration of the Carnegie Library in Yreka is nearly complete and that exterior work remains. "We're bringing to a conclusion the interior improvements of the Carnegie Library here in Waurica," she said, and invited supervisors to a preview of the restoration.
Gilles Roberts, director of Ag and Innovations for the council, briefed the board on ag programs: a 13‑week food‑venture boot camp serving Siskiyou, Trinity and Shasta counties, after which graduates may apply for a $25,000 grant through the California Office of the Small Business; financial workshops in partnership with UC Cooperative Extension and Chico State; and ongoing work on the Healthy Soils program with the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA).
Roberts said the Yreka hospital used New Markets Tax Credits to finance an addition that he estimated delivered approximately $8,000,000 in value to the project. He said the council has been using the Carnegie Library restoration as a model to demonstrate tax-credit financing and that lessons learned are being shared with other county projects.
The board thanked the presenters. No formal actions were taken; presenters requested the board accept their update and noted they would return with further details as projects proceed.
