Dr. Walt English named six officers and alleged violations of state and federal law, asking the mayor to “press criminal charges against these 6 officers and after your investigation, terminate all officers from the Ogden Police Department.” He cited multiple cases and asserted that the department did not take citizens’ complaints seriously.
Council leadership and the mayor responded that they would not comment on ongoing prosecutions. “I’m not gonna comment on ongoing prosecutions. I'll leave it at that,” the mayor said. Council members also reminded speakers of the three-minute public comment limit after several commenters exceeded the allotment.
Other residents described concerns about individual incidents and neighborhood police activity. Laura Lewis said she observed police entering backyards and questioned a specific case involving a neighbor. Deborah Derrington and other survivors also spoke during public comment on separate agenda items.
Council members said they would not address specific ongoing cases in the meeting but encouraged concerned citizens to follow formal complaint processes outside the council forum. The council did not take action on policing policy or personnel during the April 15 meeting.
