Ogden Council recognizes Sexual Assault Awareness Month; YCC executive director urges support for survivors

Ogden City Council on April 15 formally acknowledged Sexual Assault Awareness Month and designated Wednesday, April 30 as Denim Day in Ogden, a national and international effort to spotlight survivor support and oppose victim blaming.
Vice Chair Myers introduced the acknowledgment and invited Danette Stanger, executive director of the YCC Family Crisis Center, to speak. “Services are available, that they're free, that they're confidential, and we are here to help,” Stanger said, describing YCC’s hospital-response advocates and its team of four case managers who assist survivors 24 hours a day.
Stanger told the council that the YCC is entering its 80th year and that Denim Day grew from a court case in Italy that highlighted victim blaming. She emphasized community collaboration: “Meeting the needs of survivors of sexual violence is really an issue that takes all of us to come together to support and empower and uplift people who've experienced these really difficult crimes.”
Council members thanked Stanger for her remarks and acknowledged local prevention and support efforts. No formal action or funding decisions were made during the acknowledgment; it was noted on the agenda as an acknowledgment item.
