Leroy H. Smith School Principal Dylan Moore presented the school’s monthly report to the RSU 22 School Board, summarizing classroom activities, family-engagement programs and supports that staff say have helped increase attendance.
Moore told the board that pre-K will move to a full-day, full-week schedule next year and that the program uses an open-source pre-K curriculum from the state department of education. He described monthly SNAP-Ed visits — a nutrition education program — and several family-engagement events including mystery readers, family math night and "be our guest" classroom visits that bring parents onto campus for activities.
Moore also described several schoolwide initiatives: an Adopt-a-Cow program run with a local farm that provides updates to students, a BFit activity that gives grade-level groups 15 minutes of supervised physical activity in the gym to boost attendance, and arts-center concerts that bring the whole school together. School staff reported that attendance has improved except for an illness-related dip in February, and administrators credited targeted outreach and attendance-tracking support from county-level partners.
The presentation included routine academic and extracurricular notes: choir and band performances with high ratings at state events, upcoming prom and drama productions, and Early College Day for juniors to explore dual-enrollment options. Moore invited questions; board members asked for follow-up about distribution plans for an informational parking-lot video and the link between engagement programs and attendance trends.
