The Madison Common Council on April 15 adopted a series of resolutions commending outgoing alderpersons for their service to the city and their districts. Council members offered remarks about each departing member’s accomplishments before each resolution was approved by unanimous vote with no recorded objections.
Resolutions adopted on the morning agenda honored Alder Juliana Rose Bennett (Legistar 87875), Alder Marsha Rummel (Legistar 87787), Alder Nasr Wahili (Legistar 87872), Alder Nikki Conklin (Legistar 87839), Alder Amani Latimer Burris (Legistar 87840), Alder J.L. Curry (Legistar 87810), and Alder Charles Miyadze (Legistar 87821). Each resolution summarized the alderperson’s committee assignments, key projects and community service. Speakers highlighted housing, transportation, mentorship, community engagement, and public‑safety initiatives as recurring themes of the departing members’ tenures.
Council members delivering remarks described personal and policy work by the departing alders. Alder Juliana Rose Bennett reflected on “change, respect and legacy,” and emphasized the duality of loving and being frustrated by the city. Speakers repeatedly credited departing alders with mentoring newer members, expanding civic engagement and shepherding projects from planning to construction. Each resolution was moved and seconded on the record and recorded as a unanimous affirmative vote with no objections noted.
