Madison Common Council swears in new members; Regina Vittiver elected council president, Govindarajan chosen vice president

The Madison Common Council convened its organizational meeting on April 15, 2025, swore in newly elected and re‑elected alderpersons and elected Alder Regina Vittiver as Common Council president and Alder Govindarajan as vice president by acclamation.
The clerk administered the oath of office to newly seated members. Following the roll call, nominations for Common Council president opened. Alder Govindarajan nominated Alder Regina Vittiver; the nomination was seconded and, seeing no further nominations or objections, the council elected Vittiver by acclamation. Alder Vittiver then opened nominations for vice president and nominated Alder Govindarajan. That nomination also received a second and, with no objections, Govindarajan was elected by acclamation.
The organizational actions concluded with the council moving to recess until 6:30 p.m. the same day. The nominations and acclamations were handled on the record during the committee-of-the-whole portion of the meeting and were recorded without formal roll‑call opposition.
