City Council resolution to place Metropolitan Park District on August ballot heads commission briefing

Commissioners were briefed that the Lacey City Council adopted Resolution 1166, sending a proposition to voters to create a Metropolitan Park District (MPD) to appear on the August 5, 2025 ballot.
Parks, Culture and Recreation Director Jen Burbage said council approved Resolution 1166 at its April 1 meeting and that city staff are developing a communications plan and informational flyer to provide factual information about an MPD. She also said the council expected additional discussion, including recruitment of people to prepare pro and con statements for the ballot materials. Staff noted the council planned to discuss the topic again at the April 22 council meeting.
The commission was not asked to take a formal position; staff asked commissioners to hold May 20 on their calendars for related council agenda items and for the historian award presentation.
