Highland Rim school construction on track for August opening, district officials say

Lincoln County school officials reported construction at the new Highland Rim facility is nearing completion and on target for student occupancy in August; renovations of the old building will follow and bids will be posted soon.
Dr. Bill Heath, speaking at the April 15 Lincoln County Board of Commissioners meeting, updated the commission on construction at the new Highland Rim school and preliminary plans to renovate the old building.
Heath said power and gas are on in the new building, roofing is complete, tile and cabinets are being installed, and the generator and parking-lot lighting concrete are in place. “So it looks like everything is on track for August for the kids to start in that building in August,” Heath said.
Heath said preliminary planning for renovating the older school is underway with architects and that upcoming bids will be structured so work can be scaled to match available funds. He discussed bond funds and the local allocation that will be used to complete renovations and said there should be “plenty of money to get that project done.”
Heath thanked county leaders and staff for support during his tenure and noted that future updates will be delivered by his successor, Mr. Sorrells.
