Sen. Riebe thanks Granite board, urges recruitment of education-minded candidates

Riebe thanked Board member Todd Albert and Superintendent Horsley for their efforts and singled out Julie Jackson for consistent advocacy. She said the district’s interim committee conversations include administrator salary and chronic absenteeism, and offered to try to place topics on interim committee agendas at the discretion of the committee chair.
Riebe said elected officials in Salt Lake County often align with the board’s priorities: “I do vote exactly the way that you asked me to vote 90% of the time, probably 99.9% of the time,” she told the board. She also encouraged board members to “start asking your other superintendents to reach out to their positively education minded folks to run for office” and said rural communities are increasingly receptive to those appeals.
Her remarks were delivered during the public-comment portion of the meeting; no formal board action followed her remarks.
