Mayville swears in three alderpersons; Bob Smith elected council president and committee rosters named

The City of Mayville Common Council administered the oath of office to three newly elected alderpersons and completed its organizational business at its April organizational meeting.

Alderperson Anthony Baker (Ward 1), Alderperson Molly Henkel (Ward 3) and Alderperson Kenneth Newman (Ward 5) each repeated the oath of office, pledging to support the U.S. Constitution and the Constitution of the State of Wisconsin and to “faithfully discharge the duties of said office to the best of my ability.” The oaths were given near the start of the meeting during the swearing-in portion of the agenda.

After the oaths, councilmembers nominated and elected Bob Smith to serve as council president. A nomination was offered for Smith and, after a call for additional nominations, the council approved his election by voice vote: “All those in favor … say aye,” and the ayes prevailed. The meeting record shows no roll-call vote for the council president election; the outcome was approved by voice.

Mayor Rob Delk then announced the mayoral appointments to standing council committees and the council confirmed or accepted those committee rosters during the organization portion of the meeting. Announced committee assignments included:

- Finance Committee: Chair Kenneth Newman; members Bob Smith and Molly Henkel. - Personnel Committee: Chair Molly Henkel; members Ken Olsen and Jesse Liebnaud. - Public Safety Committee: Chair Tony DeBaker; members Kenneth Newman and Kim Olsen. - Public Works Committee: Chair Bob Smith; members Jesse Liebnaud and Tony DeBaker.

The mayor also asked councilmembers to notify the clerk or mayor of items they want placed on future agendas and encouraged fresh starts for the new session.

Ending: The council completed the organizational items and proceeded to adopt a series of annual resolutions and proclamations covered in a separate votes summary.
