West Melbourne council approves rezoning for a veterinary clinic at 2725 Minton Road; development agreement discussion continued

The City of West Melbourne City Council approved first reading of an ordinance to rezone 2725 Minton Road so a veterinarian can convert an existing restaurant into an animal medical clinic, and tabled consideration of the related development agreement until the council's May 6 meeting.

The rezoning request would change the property from C-1 (low-density commercial) to CP (Commercial Parkway) to allow the proposed veterinary use. Christy Fisher, the city planning director, told council the parcel is about 1.38 acres and that the requested CP zoning is “consistent with the city's land development regulations” and compatible with surrounding uses; she said a conditional use permit for veterinary offices will still be required from the Board of Adjustment.

Kelly Delmonico, the applicant's planning consultant, and Dr. Robert Young, owner of Animal Medical Clinic and owner of the property, told council the clinic would operate as a daytime veterinary outpatient facility offering preventative care, sick-pet visits, same-day surgery and dental care. Delmonico said, “At this time, there are no plans…
