Pine County moves Veterans Memorial Forest dedication to Duquette park due to road conditions

Pine County’s planned Veterans Memorial Forest dedication will take place at Berger Memorial Park in Duquette on April 26 at 10:30 a.m., county forester Greg Beck said, after heavy spring conditions made the originally planned forest-road site impassable for the expected number of attendees.
Beck, who manages county Memorial Forest lands, told the board the county designated roughly 36,200 acres as Memorial Forest lands beginning in 2010 and recently adopted a resolution dedicating them to military veterans. The dedication ceremony will include color posting by the American Legion, musical accompaniment by the East Central Eagles band, brief remarks by county commissioners and veteran speakers, and signage across the county’s Memorial Forest lands.
Beck said the relocation to Jack E. Berger Memorial Park — about a half-mile from the original site — is a ‘‘blessing in disguise’’ because the park offers amenities and accessibility for attendees. He identified veteran speakers including Brad Jensen and Commissioner Reese Robertson and noted family and community partners involved in planning the ceremony.
The board confirmed plans to post signage and to hold the dedication on April 26 at 10:30 a.m., with weather permitting. No formal board action was required to change the publicly announced ceremony location; Beck said staff would post updated location information and signage.
