City staff to present Winter Glow transfer to council; commission awaits direction

City staff told the Parks and Arts Commission on April 14 that a workshop with City Council is scheduled to discuss whether the city should purchase or inherit the Winter Glow event.
Staff reported the Winter Glow board and several citizens involved with the event plan to attend the council workshop. Staff said taking the event on would be costly because of labor and material expenses and that council would likely ask staff for additional information before the commission would be asked to commit resources or operational support. The staff presentation to council was described as a preliminary discussion to gauge council’s interest rather than a binding decision.
“It's not a vote tomorrow night of yay or nay,” staff said, adding that staff will return to the Parks and Arts Commission for further discussion once council has indicated interest or direction.
Commissioners noted volunteer capacity has diminished over the years and that the event’s long-term viability as a volunteer-run project is uncertain. Staff encouraged commissioners and interested citizens to attend the council workshop via Zoom if they wished to observe the discussion.
