A commissioner said at a Thurston County Board of County Commissioners work session that they will recuse themselves from a 1 p.m. land-use appeal hearing because they know parties involved in the case.
"I'll be recusing myself from the 01:00. The the thing later. I I know mister Wendler, the 10 90 community members, and they've held a lot of PPA functions out at their event. And then I also know some of the people that are complaining," the commissioner said during commissioner items.
Board members discussed the hearing's scheduling and procedure. The hearing is scheduled as an hour-and-a-half block; the board noted that each side typically receives 15 minutes for initial presentations followed by questions and time to consult with counsel either before or after the testimony. "So between all of that, it it's just a block of time that usually we need," one commissioner said.
Meeting participants said they expect to speak with county counsel while the proceedings are fresh in members' minds. The work session did not include a formal motion or a vote related to the recusal.
The board also referenced prior briefings with staff in advance of the appeal and said they would reconvene at 1 p.m. for the land-use appeal.
