Community services update: Saunders Road site work pending, Orphans of the Storm expansion delayed to June

Federal Life site: Witt said demolition continues and foundation removal is expected to continue for roughly two more weeks; the site is now open where the building came down.
Open burning program: Witt noted the grace period for the village’s open burning ordinance expired that day; staff has processed eight permit applications (four submitted the prior day), three processed and one denied because the parcel lacked a legal area for burning. Witt said there have been no enforcement issues since the ordinance passed.
Hazardous‑tree program: tree removals have begun; staff is confirming property lines because some residents dispute whether a targeted tree is on their property. Witt said it will take an estimated two to three weeks to resolve outstanding boundary questions and finalize removals.
Police department native landscaping RFP: Witt said the village finally issued an RFP for native landscaping at the police department and bids are due next Friday; the matter will come to the board for approval after bid review.
Orphans of the Storm expansion: Witt said the project team will revise the application and drawings and will not appear at May’s Plan Commission; staff anticipates the case will be set for the June Plan Commission meeting. Witt described the full project as roughly 24,000 square feet, including demolition of the existing facility.
Fee schedule overhaul: Witt said staff is revising the fee schedule to update and clarify fees and remove an outdated form that listed an old building‑inspection consultant fee.
Witt asked trustees to submit questions or comments to staff for consolidation prior to public meetings; no board action was taken on these items at the meeting.
