Director Hewitt told the board the village frequently encounters emergency pump failures that occur outside normal hours and that, within the first four months of the year, crews saw seven pump replacements or repairs that exceeded the village’s $10,000 expenditure threshold. Hewitt said typical replacement costs have averaged between $10,000 and $17,000.
“Within the first 4 months of the year we've seen 7 cases that have been over the $10,000 limit,” Director Hewitt said, explaining the request. The standing approval is intended to let the village arrange emergency repairs without waiting for board authorization and thereby avoid service interruptions for homeowners.
The trustees voted by roll call to grant standing approval of emergency repairs up to $15,000; roll call recorded ayes from Trustees Eastman, Hollander, Smith, Clayton and Dickon.
What this does: staff may authorize emergency work up to the $15,000 cap to restore residents’ sewer service; the board retains oversight for larger expenditures and for contracting policies.
The board did not change the procurement policy at large; this authorization applies to emergency sanitary repairs and will be revisited as needed.
