District posts minor procedure updates; four policies slated for second reading at next meeting

District staff provided notice of several procedural updates and upcoming policy second readings; no policy votes were taken at this meeting.
Mr. Richmond, presenting the procedures, said the district made a small update to the graduation procedure concerning the seal of biliteracy and updated a Title I parent-involvement procedure to reflect input from parents. Richmond said those procedure updates are notices to the board and community; no action was taken and the revised procedures will be posted at the end of the month.
Taylor Weichman (presenter) told the board four policies introduced previously will be returned for second reading at the next board meeting. Weichman identified the policies by number and purpose as follows: policy 3205—student harassment (updates to reincorporate Title IX regulations); policy 3210—nondiscrimination (to align language with the Revised Code of Washington and to add a requirement for student handbook civil-rights language); policy 4040—to establish a $5 threshold for waiving the cost of public-records requests when requesters seek copies; and policy 5011—Title IX staff policy.
Staff characterized the updates as alignment with federal and state requirements (Title IX and RCW language where noted). No formal board action occurred on these items at this meeting; staff said the policies will return for second reading.
