Union Public Schools board approves multiple contracts and appoints associate director; bond and general funds to pay

Board members approved a two‑year license agreement for Union Virtual Learning Academy content from FlexPoint Education Cloud for $204,490 from bond funds and a separate two‑year, 1,000‑seat license for electives from eDynamic Learning for $130,000 from bond funds. "This is our core curriculum we use for our Union Virtual Learning Academy at the high school," Mr. Morse said of the FlexPoint content. He told the board the two‑year FlexPoint agreement kept the price the same as the previous two years and that the district pays the full amount up front to use bond funds.
The board also awarded several construction and renovation contracts from bond funds: $201,700 to Magnum Construction Inc. for backstage renovations at the Performing Arts Center; a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $457,941 to Magnum Construction Inc. for the Cedar Ridge Elementary playground improvements; $113,500 to T and S Taylor Enterprises Inc. for locker room flooring at Freshman Academy; $949,725 to Limestone Construction LLC for flooring and countertops at Peters Elementary; and a GMP amendment of $1,397,888.42 to Knapholz Construction Corporation for the sixth and seventh grade center renovation work. Doctor Robinson described the projects as a mix of small replacement packages and larger preparatory work for the center renovation and said some work will begin as soon as school is out.
The board approved purchase of custodial warehouse supplies from Brady Industries for $115,847.15 from general funds; Doctor Robinson said approximately $85,000 of that total covers toilet paper and paper towels, with the remainder for gloves, hand soap and similar items. The board also approved the purchase and installation of building automation system (BAS) controls for the sixth and seventh grade center from Harrison Energy Partners for $203,874 from bond funds. "This is actually the BAS portion" of the HVAC work, Doctor Robinson said, adding the district is replacing an older, proprietary system.
On personnel, the board approved the appointment of Crystal Solto as associate director of special services. Dr. Federline outlined Solto’s time with the district, saying she joined Union in February 2012 and became an assistant principal in February 2019. The board approved the recommendation and welcomed Solto.
