The Muskego City Library Board on April 15 appointed a nominating committee for next month's annual meeting, deferred further discussion of a community-service waiver release and several policy items, and heard a director's report highlighting upcoming programs and increased usage.
Board President Michelle appointed two members in absentia, Phyllis and Dave, to the nominating committee; the board treated those appointments as administrative and said the committee's role is to contact board members and present a slate of officers at the May annual meeting. A board member explained that committee members generally present three names for president, vice president and treasurer and that the committee's work is limited in duration.
Earlier in the meeting the board voted to defer discussion of the community-service waiver release to the next meeting to ensure adequate membership for deliberation. The board also moved the meeting-room policy and computer-and-internet use policy to May for final review and vote; both are required every five years by Waukesha County for the library's standing in county funding discussions.
In the director's report staff said the library is preparing for summer reading, recently ran popular programs, and is planning the Friends of the Library garden-walk fundraiser and a Friends fundraiser at Culver's on May 21. The director called out staff anniversaries — Courtney (6 years), Stacy (8 years) and Laura (25 years) — and reported a month-over-month increase in checkouts and foot traffic. The director said, as presented in the packet, library visits in March were "67," and physical checkouts were up about 9% compared with the prior year; electronic checkouts have increased substantially since 2019.
Board members raised audiovisual and Wi-Fi reliability concerns after several speakers reported crackling audio during the meeting and a separate recent meeting in the building was unable to play a video because of Wi-Fi limits. The director said she will run diagnostic tests and contact IT before the next meeting.
The board approved the consent agenda, including approval of the March 18 minutes and March 2025 financial statements, by voice vote. The meeting adjourned at 5:54 p.m.
