Forensic expert testifies that defendant had multiple adverse childhood experiences, links trauma and adolescent brain development
Summary
Forensic psychologist John Matthew Fabian testified by Zoom that the defendant experienced multigenerational trauma, multiple adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and neurodevelopmental conditions that can affect impulse control and emotional regulation.
John Matthew Fabian, a forensic psychologist and neuropsychologist, testified by Zoom that the defendant's early life exposure to instability, neglect and abuse created developmental risks that are relevant at punishment.
Fabian told the jury he reviewed juvenile probation records, police reports, a Tarrant County psychological evaluation (dated 11/15/2016) and interviewed family members and the defendant. "I ran analysis on your client, Mr. McIntyre," Fabian said, "and it revealed that he had eight of the ten [ACEs]." The expert described that result as "pretty high" and said a cumulative count of ACEs correlates with elevated risk for negative outcomes.
