Residents urge school intervention funding and raise address‑assignment concerns during Goochland public comment

During the April 15 citizen comment period, two residents spoke to the Board of Supervisors about local education and addressing concerns.
Sean Hicks, who identified himself as a resident of District 4 and a mother of a kindergartener at Randolph Elementary, told the board she supports adding money to the education budget for three interventionists. Hicks said she watched board working sessions to inform herself and urged continued support for school staffing, noting she will also raise the issue with the school board.
Later in the meeting Michelle Garman, who stated her address as 4003 Royal Virginia Lane and identified herself as a frequent attendee at board meetings, described repeated problems where residents in parts of the county receive mailing addresses associated with other localities (for example, Louisa or Mineral) rather than the correct Goochland local place name. Garman said the mismatches cause practical problems and asked staff and the board to pursue corrections; she noted previous work by county staff had resolved a separate address issue she raised earlier.
Board members and staff acknowledged both comments. Interim County Administrator Alvarez and supervisors thanked the speakers for their participation and noted the board had included additional education funding in the adopted budget. Staff did not offer an immediate schedule for resolving the addressing issue but said the matter could require coordination with mapping, routing and external addressing authorities.
No formal action on either issue was taken during the meeting; both matters were recorded in the public record and speakers said they plan continued engagement with county staff and the school board.
