Milford City Council on April 15 voted to authorize the city manager to submit Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) applications to the Clermont County Board of Commissioners for identified infrastructure needs.
City Manager Benjamin Gunderson said staff plans to apply for two items: replacement UV bulbs for the wastewater treatment plant and a sidewalk replacement on Mohawk Lane where a steep hillside has left a closed sidewalk. Gunderson said the Mohawk Lane sidewalk has been closed for “at least” four years and that a contractor quote provided by the city engineer estimated approximately $35,000 to replace the sidewalk and add safety measures along the hillside.
Gunderson said he also applied for congressional earmarks for the wastewater UV-bulb project and for other projects; he emphasized that earmark awards are not guaranteed and that the CDBG application is a separate funding avenue. Council voted unanimously to adopt the resolution (2025-662) authorizing the city manager to submit the CDBG application and to sign necessary documents.
The resolution directs staff to submit the application to the Clermont County commissioners and continue project-level engineering and cost verification; council asked staff to track deadlines and return with grant application status and any required follow-up.
