Presenter Robbie Ramos described the play as a one-act drama inspired by historical events and family memory, and said it would pair performances with student education and backstage participation. “I wrote it as a love letter to [my grandfather],” Ramos said, describing the production’s connection to Cuban political prisoners. Gabriel Bonilla and a named team described the immersive staging plan and listed performers and visual artists who will participate.
Organizers said the project has a $50,000 state appropriation and additional sponsorships; they asked only that the city provide the Cultural Center space in kind. The presenters said they would provide free student access and that a percentage of ticket sales (organizers indicated 15%) would benefit Parks and Police for Kids. Council members urged coordination with staff on permitting and operations; the council approved the measure by voice and roll call, with no recorded dissent.
The council indicated it expects city staff to work with the production team on logistics, permitting and a media night; opening night is scheduled for June 13, 2025, and the production team plans student engagement and an exhibit of historical materials while the show runs.
