The Greene County Board of Commissioners approved a redistricting ordinance and a package of county contracts and facility repairs during a regular commission meeting.
The board voted to adopt county ordinance 2025-01 correcting measurements on North Hudson Lane and county ordinance 2025-02 to redraw county council district boundaries after the 2020 census, the board said during the meeting. Commissioners also approved contracts for generator maintenance, jail HVAC controls, a CASA services contract, jail roofing repairs and a contract with First Group for an event-center project, among other routine items.
The redistricting ordinance (2025-02) was presented by county staff and Commissioner Graves as reducing population variance among districts to less than 10 percent following census-driven adjustments. The board "had a presentation put together by the clerk and Commissioner Graves that gets us down less than 10% variance in the population between the districts," Commissioner Graves said.
Why it matters: Redrawing council districts affects representation at the county level and is tied to the legal requirement to keep districts roughly equal in population after each decennial census. The other votes commit county funds and change contracts affecting public safety infrastructure and county facilities.

Procedural notes: Most votes were taken by voice with the clerk confirming the motion and a commissioner answering "All in favor?" The transcript records the votes as approved after the calls for the question. The meeting record did not provide a roll-call vote or numerical tallies.
County attorney Marvin Abshire and staff members advised on contract language and warranties before votes on several items. The board recessed briefly to a public hearing on the North Hudson Lane petition and then returned to regular business.
Ending: The board completed the agenda items and set the next regular meeting for May at 9:30 a.m. in the same room; a motion to adjourn followed and carried.
