Parks applied for King County grant to help restore Camp Long after winter fire, councilmember says

Councilmember Tammy J. Saka said on April 14 that Seattle Parks has applied for a King County Parks Capital and Open Space Grant to support restoration work at Camp Long, a West Seattle site damaged by a December fire.

Saka called reopening Camp Long a priority for constituents in West Seattle and said the parks department filed the county grant application “as recently as last week.” She said the city will pursue a combination of insurance, city funds and county grant funding to rebuild the site and that city council members who sit on the King County Regional Policy Committee will discuss sponsorship and support.

Saka emphasized the need to be creative in the current budget environment to secure funds for repairs and said she will follow up one-on-one with council colleagues who also sit on the regional committee to advance sponsorship for the grant package. No council appropriation or binding commitment was announced at the briefing; the parks department’s application to King County is an executive action and will be considered by King County according to that agency’s grant process.
