The Martinsville Board of Works and Safety on April 14 approved annual street-closure permits for the Fall Voyage Festival and its 5K run, with recommended modifications to the parade route to accommodate ongoing construction around the square.
City staff proposed and the festival’s parade organizers agreed to a route modification to turn onto Jefferson Street instead of continuing to Main Street for the duration of the parade while square-area construction remains in place. Staff also asked that the 5K route not travel south of John R. Wooden Drive on Illinois Street so that the intersection remains available for parade traffic; the board accepted that restriction.
Board members discussed closure times. Staff said the listed event times reflect the core events and that closures will extend from 7:30 a.m. until shortly after the events conclude; signs will be posted earlier (about 4:30 p.m. the prior day) to give crews time to deploy them. “The closures will be from 07:30 in the morning until right after the break,” a staff presenter said.
The board moved and approved the closure permits on a voice vote with no recorded opposition.
