Board of Works approves two-year generator service contract worth $21,052

Martinsville Board of Works and Safety on April 14 approved a two-year service contract with Jeff's Sales and Service for routine maintenance of the city’s backup generators, totaling $21,052.
The contract covers annual service visits to the city’s generators at major facilities and lift and booster stations. The first-year cost is $10,216 and the second-year cost is $10,216; the police station’s new generator is covered by a one-year warranty, so service there begins in the contract’s second year, an additional $620 noted for two visits to that unit.
The board was told the vendor’s technician recently retired from Cummins and is familiar with Martinsville’s generator fleet; board members said that familiarity and the lower price were reasons to proceed. “We’re saving about $6,000 and the gentleman who quoted us this had just retired from Cummins, and so he was the tech for all our generators,” said Mister Denham (staff member).
A board member moved to approve the contract as presented and the motion carried on a voice vote with all members present saying “aye.”
