Council pro tem advances proclamation recognizing April 2025 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month; signatures affixed

Council President Pro Tem Alexis Mercedes Rink read into the record a proclamation from Councilmember Moore on April 14 recognizing April 2025 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Seattle and asked the clerk to affix council signatures to the document.

Rink said the proclamation recognizes April 2025 as “Sexual Assault Awareness Month” and noted this is the 24th observance. Quoting Moore’s language, Rink said the year’s theme is “together we act, united we change,” and that the proclamation encourages awareness and resources for people disproportionately affected by sexual violence.

The proclamation also called attention to International Denim Day on April 30, urging people to wear denim to raise awareness of victim blaming; Rink summarized the origin of Denim Day in a reference to an Italian court decision cited in the proclamation. During the roll call to determine whose signatures would be affixed, Councilmember Sara Nelson was excused; votes recorded on the roll call were: Councilmember Tammy J. Saka — “Aye”; Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda Solomon — “Aye”; Councilmember Andrew Hollingsworth — “Yes”; Councilmember Rob Kettle — “Aye”; and Council President Pro Tem Alexis Mercedes Rink — “Aye.” Rink said five signatures would be affixed.

No council debate followed the reading; Rink invited members to add their signatures and moved the request forward on Councilmember Moore’s behalf.
