Harrison County honors students named to All-State ensembles and Governor’s School for the Arts
Summary
The board recognized dozens of students selected for West Virginia All-State ensembles across children’s choir, band, orchestra and high-school choir and acknowledged Lincoln High students chosen for the Governor’s School for the Arts.
Harrison County music leaders and the county music contact recognized students named to the 2025 West Virginia All-State ensembles and those selected for the Governor’s School for the Arts, presenting certificates and inviting music directors and students to the front of the boardroom.
The county music contact (unnamed in the transcript) read the list of student representatives from elementary, middle and high schools, thanking directors for nominating students or supporting their audition processes. Named student representatives included (as read aloud at the meeting): Emma Beagle (Justin Elementary); Violet Humphreys (Johnson Elementary); Sofia Cooper; Lucas Kelly; Adelie Kirk (Lost Creek Elementary); Haven Hartley; Taylor France; Jocelyn Van Horn and Leona Wilflam (South Harrison Middle School); Cozette Steer (West Milford Elementary); Autumn Sharp and Adrianna Godfrey (Lincoln Middle School); Lily Facemeyer and Ella Gray (Nutter Ford Intermediate); and many others from Bridgeport High School, Lincoln High School, Liberty High School, Birchwood/Birchmore High, Mountaineer Middle and multiple elementary and middle schools across the county. The board also recognized three Lincoln High School students who were accepted to the Governor’s School for the Arts for sophomores: Xavier Gaston (2022–23 school year), Gianna (listed in transcript as “Gianna Fragment/Bridal?” for 2023–24) and Rosalia Keener (2023–24). Presenters described the Governor’s School for the Arts as a three-week intensive summer program on West Virginia college campuses for sophomores interested in arts study.
The county music contact thanked the superintendent and district leadership for supporting arts programming and credited the excess levy for helping maintain music offerings. The board recessed recognition items with photo opportunities and invited families to remain for the regular business or to leave.
