The Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted unanimously to rezone two city parcels to neighborhood commercial zoning on their first readings.
Both rezoning requests were introduced at the start of the meeting. The first parcel, identified in the agenda as 116 East Warren Street (Coffee County tax map 124 N, Group G), was proposed to move from I-1 restricted industrial and warehousing to C-3 neighborhood commercial. The second parcel at 1002 Southwest Atlantic Street was proposed to move from C-2 to C-3 neighborhood commercial.
Sam, a planning staff member, reported that the first rezoning “went through the planning commission without incident.” After brief acknowledgement and no public speakers, each ordinance received a motion, a second and a unanimous 7-0 vote for the first of two required readings.
Why it matters: rezoning changes permitted uses on each lot and can affect future development, permitted businesses and local traffic patterns. The board did not record any conditions or amendments in the meeting record. The items will return for their next required reading under the municipal ordinance process.
Votes at a glance: - Ordinance 16-46: Rezone 116 East Warren Street from I-1 to C-3 — First reading passed 7-0. - Ordinance 16-47: Rezone 1002 Southwest Atlantic Street from C-2 to C-3 — First reading passed 7-0.
The board moved on to other business after the votes; no public comments or staff conditions were recorded for either rezoning during this session.
