Commission approves asbestos testing under Brownfields grant, publishes dilapidated-housing solicitation and postpones single bid for equipment purchase

Amy (county staff) briefed the commission on Brownfields grant spending: the county holds a $378,000 grant, has spent about $78,000 and retains roughly $200,000 in available funds after prior allocations. Region 4 sought additional asbestos testing for Collins Middle School and asbestos, mold and structural testing on the courthouse, sheriff—s building and park facilities. The commission approved contracting Greenbrier Environmental to conduct the asbestos management (ACM) testing and related structural assessments as needed for the Brownfields and REAP-related demolitions.

On dilapidated-housing funding, staff reported the county received $520,500 this year to remove dangerous structures; the commission approved publishing an application notice and asked staff to prepare outreach and application materials so residents can apply.

During a bid opening the commission received one bid for equipment; commissioners opted to postpone awarding the bid until the next meeting to allow time for review. The single bid amount was discussed on the record (about $2,209,392.65 as read on the transcript), and commissioners asked staff to provide full bid documents and any addenda before the next meeting.
