Commission extends acting manager Bradley A. Griffin's term through June 4

The Athens-Clarke County Commission on April 15 voted unanimously to approve a first amendment extending Bradley A. Griffin's appointment as acting manager through June 4, 2025.

The extension was moved by Commissioner Thornton and seconded by Commissioner Wright. Thornton offered the motion, saying simply, "Move that Brentley stays until June 4." The commission voted in favor with no recorded dissents.

Mayor presided and read the formal recommendation into the record, citing "Section four-one hundred and 1 of the Charter" and asking the commission to "approve the recommendation and authorize me to execute the First Amendment to the employment agreement with him, in substantially the same form as was attached to the agenda." The mayor said the extension would carry Griffin through the budget adoption period.

The motion to suspend the rules so the first reading could be considered was made earlier in the special session by Commissioner Thornton and seconded by Commissioner Taylor; that suspension also passed unanimously.

The commission did not record any public comment on the amendment during the special-called session. No further amendments to the employment agreement were stated on the record during the meeting.

The commission entered the names of several residents being appointed or reappointed to tax allocation district committees into the record at the end of the special session; the clerk logged those names for the official minutes.
