Montgomery County commissioners on Tuesday waived rules to add a hiring item from the sheriff’s office to the formal agenda, allowing the sheriff to fill a master auto mechanic position.
Sheriff Derek Cunningham introduced the request, saying the department had identified an “overly qualified” candidate who would be able to start “the next pay period.” Cunningham described the candidate’s family health needs as a reason the applicant sought a position with a shorter commute.
A commissioner moved to waive rules; another commissioner seconded and the commission signified approval by raising hands. The waiver places the hiring item on today’s formal agenda for final action.
Sheriff Cunningham also announced upcoming community events, and reminded commissioners about scholarship applications recently posted to the county website.
