Festus council accepts municipal election results, swears in officials and elects mayor pro tem

The Festus City Council on May 20 accepted the certified results of the recent general municipal election, administered oaths to newly elected officials and elected Councilman Dave Boyer as mayor pro tem.

Accepting certified election returns finalizes the outcome of the recent municipal contest and allows incoming members to assume office.

City staff presented vote totals for four council wards. For Ward 1, David E. Boyer received 109 votes and John Weiss received 56 votes; Ward 2 results recorded Stacy Templeton with 91 votes, Allen McCarthy with 72 and Malachi Dukes with 19; Ward 3 recorded Tim Bennett with 82 votes and Kevin Dennis with 83; Ward 4 recorded Michael Cook with 204 votes and Luke Adams with 101. The council motion to accept the election results carried on voice vote.

Council then adjourned sine die for the swearing‑in ceremony; new members were sworn in under oath to uphold the constitutions and city ordinances.

At the council’s organization portion, nominations were taken for mayor pro tem. A first motion to elect Stacy Templeton failed on a roll call. A subsequent motion to elect Dave Boyer for mayor pro tem was made and carried by roll call; the presiding officer announced “The motion passes. Councilman Boyer, you are now mayor pro tem.”

Council members also offered brief remarks of congratulations and noted priorities for the coming term, including street work and continued attention to public safety and parks development.

The meeting then moved into regular business.
