Resident urges support for regional transit, proposes Fox River rapid-bus on Route 31

Michael Nelson, a lifelong Kane County resident from St. Charles and Hampton Hills, urged the Transportation Committee during public comment to support regional transit funding for CTA and PACE, warning that state-level inaction would force service cuts and fare hikes.
Nelson said the Chicago-area transit agencies face a looming shortfall and that higher fares and reduced service would risk a downward spiral in ridership. He called on local leaders to advocate with state legislators and suggested a Fox River rapid-transit bus along Route 31 connecting Elgin, Algonquin, Aurora and Yorkville as a way to knit regional services together.
Nelson framed his remarks as a plea for community-building and said public transit helps businesses, cross-pollinates local economies and reduces barriers to participation.
